Up for auction is an original antique certificate of the "Society of California Pioneers of New England". This beautiful piece of Western Americana is dated 1889. Of all names it has John "Goldsmith", which makes this even more interesting. The certificate explains in very nice penmanship how he made his journey in the "Barque Nile" via Cape Horn after a passage of 169 days, arriving in San Francisco on March 12th 1850. Signed by the president and secretary of the society, also document shows an orange embossed seal. Certificate shows many scene's of the Miners ,Schooners, and other images that shows the '49ers rugged experience. There is a 6" tear top center, frayed edges and creases. The plastic covering obscure certificate somewhat, but overall still a keeper and still has great eye appeal. Measures : 27 7/8" x  21 1/4"  will ship UPS due to size..
